The Clark County Health Department has a focus of primary prevention. Through programs linked with local schools, we have been providing services to help keep teeth healthy. One program the health department participates in is the Wisconsin Seal-A-Smile Program.

The Wisconsin Seal-A-Smile (SAS) is a statewide sealant program that offers grants to local school-based programs targeting underserved children. The Seal-A-Smile program is currently being offered to schools in Clark County. As a part of this program, children may receive a dental screening (without x-rays), cleaning, have sealants applied to their permanent molar (back) teeth, and receive 2-3 topical applications of fluoride varnish.

The mission of the Seal-A-Smile program is to prevent dental decay and promote oral health as part of a child’s total health by increasing the number of dental sealants on their teeth through community-based sealant promotion initiatives.

The Seal-A-Smile initiative has three primary goals:

  1. Sealant Placement – To have annual community-based sealant promotion initiatives in every county of the state (all children are eligible to receive sealants);
  2. Sealant Education – To provide education and information about sealants and oral health; and
  3. Partnerships – To strengthen state and local partnerships between oral health, education, and youth health advocates to improve the oral health of children in Wisconsin.

The Family Health Center (FHC) of Marshfield, helps with limited oral health services. Through partnership with Marshfield Clinic, dental services are available at dental centers in Chippewa Falls, Ladysmith, Marshfield, Medford, Neillsville, Park Falls, Rhinelander and Rice Lake.
